According to an article in The Times, Ottawa, Illinois, the Streator, Illinois, City Council discussed the possibility of hosting an electronics recycling event at a meeting of the Committee of the Whole Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
The event would allow residents to dispose of household electronics, such as computers, printers, cellphones and TVs, for free. Only three tube-type monitors or TVs would be accepted per vehicle or per residence. Commercial or business locations would not be permitted to drop off electronics, the article says.
Two companies have offered bids to sort and haul recyclables. Houston-based Waste Management Inc. (WM) offered a price of $14,750 for up to 50,000 pounds.
“If we collect [50,000 pounds], it’s a good deal,” City Manager Scot Wrighton said to the board, according to the article. “If we collect less than that, it’s not a good deal.”
Republic Services offered a tentative price of $19,580 for 50,000 pounds, depending on the types of the material collected.
The event likely would take place during a Saturday in August at 408 N. Iowa Ave.
