France-based Suez says it has entered into an agreement with the city of Huaibei, in Anhui Province, China, to build and operate a hazardous industrial waste treatment plant.

The plant will be “equipped with solutions in favor of the local circular economy,” says Suez, adding that the project “will guarantee an efficient treatment of industrial flows, while protecting the environment and encouraging economic and social development.”

The French firm says the contract will generate sales of “approximately €700 million ($823 million) over a period of 30 years.”

Construction on the hazardous waste treatment facility is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2020, with its commissioning scheduled for late 2021.

The facility will consist of a treatment and energy recovery unit with an annual capacity of 30,000 metric tons. The energy recovery system will produce 85,000 metric tons of steam per year, supplied to industrial customers in the region, according to Suez.
