The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Silver Spring, Maryland, has announced that WM Inc. (formerly known as Waste Management) has joined it as its newest corporate partner.
SWANA describes WM’s involvement as part of the firm’s effort to advance safety and best practices in the waste and resource management industry.
The organization describes WM as a North American provider of comprehensive environmental solutions with sustainability central to its business, adding that many of its customers are SWANA municipal and solid waste district members.
SWANA also describes WM as having the largest disposal network and collection fleet the United States and Canada and as “the largest recycler” and a leader in the beneficial use of landfill gas, with a growing network of renewable natural gas (RNG) plants and a portfolio of landfill gas-to-electricity plants, plus an RNG truck fleet.
“WM is such an important part of the industry and an important supporter of SWANA over the years,” says SWANA CEO Amy Lestition Burke. “Many WM employees have been active SWANA volunteers and leaders, supporting SWANA technical divisions, chapters, training courses, the board of directors and more.”
Adds Lestition Burke, “This new partnership is the natural next step, providing more opportunities for WM to share thought leadership and technical expertise while supporting SWANA’s new initiatives, including RCon and our upcoming safety workshop.”
Remarks Susan Moulton, a senior director at Houston-based WM, “WM provides essential services to communities across North America, and with SWANA we are able to provide additional industry insight and support to our municipal customers. We look forward to working with SWANA to help solve important issues that affect recycling, landfills, collections and other aspects of our industry.”
