A California Waste Solutions truck operator was injured Tuesday morning after an unknown item exploded inside his truck.
The worker was emptying recycling bins at the rear of his truck at 7:53 a.m. when the item exploded, sending the driver to the ground.
California Waste Solutions on Facebook thanked the Oakland Police Department, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and “each resident for their quick response and care” for the employee injured in Tuesday’s explosion and reminded residents of approved recyclable materials and common hazardous materials.
“We must work together to educate all residents on proper recycling practices,” the company states on its page.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation. The driver was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition.
