The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Washington, is reviewing a proposal to extend the life of the Washington County Special Services landfill in St. George, Utah, by providing the site with 55 acres. If approved, the landfill could be extended by an additional 25 years. The landfill is located on about 500 acres in an unincorporated part of Washington county.
The county filed a Recreation and Public Purposes Act application with the BLM on Aug. 17, 2016, to expand the landfill.
Before approving the project, the BLM is seeking comments from the public on the project. Those wishing to review the proposal can find it on this web page.
“This proposal is an effort by the BLM at the request of Washington County to help identify ways to support the local community,” Ahmed Mohsen, a BLM district manager, says. “This is a proposal that affects balance and multiple use.”
The deadline for comments is May 3, 2018. Written comments can be mailed to the Bureau of Land Management, St. George Field Office, 345 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790, Attn: Teresa Burke, or faxed to (435) 688-3252.
