Mario Romero’s appointment was effective Nov. 6, 2017.

The board of directors of Medina, Ohio-based Vexor Technology has appointed Mario Romero as chief executive officer, effective Nov 6, 2017.

Steve Berry, former president and CEO of the company, will continue with Vexor as a board member, shareholder and in a senior leadership role. His efforts will focus on business development and achieving the company’s strategic mission of growth through additional Vexor Engineered Fuel facilities, as well as, developing additional outlets for the engineered fuel produced from its existing facilities.

“This is the perfect time for Mario to become our next chief executive officer,” Berry says. “We've selected a very strong leader at a time when our growth prospects are bright.”

Romero brings has a history of leadership, most recently as CEO of Custom Ecology Inc., executive vice president of US Ecology Inc. and chief operating officer of EQ-The Environmental Quality Co., which merged with US Ecology in 2014. Previously, he was president of Energis LLC (now Geocycle), a Holcim US subsidiary responsible for the alternative fuels and alternative raw materials program at 11 U.S. cement plants. His knowledge of the industrial waste business and alternative fuels industry will be a great asset for Vexor, the company says.

“I am joining Vexor at a very exciting time and am eager to lead the company in growing opportunities to serve existing and future customers,” Romero says. “Vexor’s unique engineered fuel helps customers and communities achieve their sustainability goals. This provides all of us an opportunity to leave the world in a better position than we were given by increasing landfill diversion rates while reducing greenhouse gasses and dependence on fossil fuels.”

Berry adds, “Our mission is to add two more facilities in the next three years while strengthening our management. Mario’s skills, experience and leadership will allow us to achieve our strategic goals. I will now have the time to focus on accelerating our future growth. Vexor’s future has taken a significant step forward today, with this appointment.”

Vexor Technology operates two nonhazardous industrial waste facilities in Medina and in Gary, Indiana.  Today, Vexor Technology processes more than 100,000 tons of waste per year and produces 50,000 tons of engineered fuel from its Medina facility.
