Houston-based VLS Environmental Solutions employees recently helped prepare for distribution more than 12,000 pounds of food for the Houston Food Bank organization.
The specialty waste firm, which handles hazardous and nonhazardous waste and cleans railcars and barge vessels, says the activity at the food bank was part of its VLS Cares initiative.
In late September, team members from VLS, coordinated by staff member La’Trece Kirk from the VLS Client Support Center, volunteered at the Houston Food Bank to pack food items for families in need.
Houston Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America network, is the largest source of food for hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties. In the previous 12 months, the Houston Food Bank distributed more than 122 million meals.
“This endeavor exemplifies our core value of service,” Kirk says. “Seeing our team come together to pack over 12,000 pounds of food for our local community was truly inspiring. It’s a reminder of the powerful impact we can make when we unite for a common cause.
“I’m proud to be a part of VLS Environmental Solutions, a company that truly cares and actively contributes to the betterment of our society.”
The more than 12,000 pounds of food handled by the VLS volunteers was equivalent to 18 pallets worth of products destined for donation.
“This significant effort will provide much needed sustenance for more than 10,000 families in the Houston area, truly exemplifying the spirit of VLS Environmental Solutions’ mission to enhance the lives of those in our community,” the company says.
