Waste Management named to 100 Best Corporate Citizens list

The company placed 61st in its fifth consecutive year on the list.

Waste Management, Houston, has been named to Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens list for the fifth consecutive year.

The 20th annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens list recognizes standout environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of public companies across the U.S.

“At Waste Management, we work every day to serve and support our communities, stakeholders and world,” says Jim Fish, the president and chief executive officer of Waste Management. “This recognition reaffirms our commitment to operate responsibly and respectfully – and to the highest environmental, social and ethical standards. It also inspires us to continue our quest for sustainable solutions, collaborative community partnerships and a vibrant future.”

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens list documents 260 ESG data points of disclosure and performance measures in seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, finance and philanthropy and community support. The list ranks the Russell 1000 Index, a roster of the 1,000 largest U.S. public companies.

“U.S. corporate leadership matters more than ever to drive progress despite government gridlock around environmental and social topics like climate change. Transparency and public commitments make corporate responsibility and sustainability programs stronger,” says Dave Armon, the CEO of 3BL Media, which publishes the magazine.

“This commendation by CR Magazine is thanks to hard-working, hard-driving men and women of Waste Management,” Fish says. “Our team is dedicated to making a difference – on the job, in our neighborhoods and throughout North America.”

Waste Management placed 61st out of 100 on the list.

“On behalf of the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA), I congratulate Waste Management, an NWRA member, on this well-earned recognition,” says NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith. “Waste Management is a model of good corporate citizenship, and I am glad that their efforts were recognized.”
