WM, Machinex partner on Quebec MRF

Representatives from Plessisville, Quebec-based Machinex attended the grand opening ceremony for the Waste Management (WM) material recovery facility (MRF) in Laval, Quebec, Feb. 24. They were joined by the Quebec Minister of the Environment Benoit Charrette and Aaron Johnson, vice president, eastern Canada at Waste Management.

Operating for the past few months, the new MRF can process up to 50,000 metric tons of recyclables annually generated by the industrial, commercial and institutional (IC&I) sectors within Greater Montreal. The MRF recovers cardboard, paper, plastic and metal. Machinex says it supplied WM with a turnkey system including an OCC (old corrugated containers) screen, disc separators for fine particles, a magnetic separator and a Machinex two-ram baler.

ʺThe expertise developed by Machinex through its many projects around the world has enabled us to create a high-performance sorting system in Laval which directly aligns with our objectives of equipment efficiency and production quality," Jean Beaudoin, WM director of Quebec sorting facilities and transfer stations. "The team deployed by Machinex for the completion of this project was attentive to our needs and knew how to adapt to the high quality standards which [are] expected by Waste Management."

David Hébert, project director at Machinex, says, "We are very satisfied with the progress of this project and especially with the performance achieved by the turnkey system we provided. We have been able to count on an excellent collaboration with the client during all stages of the process, and we wish to be able to work again with Waste Management to develop other high-performance systems."

Celebrating its 50^th anniversary this year, Machinex develops sorting, waste management and recycling technology. Over the years, the company says it has designed and installed more than 375 turnkey facilities in partnership with leading MRFs in Canada, the United States, Europe and Oceania.
