Waste Management, Houston, is rolling out its Waste Watch program in North Palm Beach and Martin County, Florida, a report by WPTV says.
The program is designed to train collection truck drivers on certain issues to look out for while in the truck. For example, the report says, a Delray Beach driver heard the screams of a woman who fell in her garage, so he stopped at her home and called for help.
The goal of the program, the report says, is for drivers to report emergencies or suspicious activities they may come across on their routes. Emphasis was also placed on how drivers should secure their trucks during the training.
Michael DeClerck, senior district manager, said in the report that the drivers will become another set of eyes, “sort of like a rolling neighborhood watch.” Local law enforcement is praising the program.
