Two Waste Pro employees in Meridian, Mississippi, went above the call of duty when they helped rescue a woman from a potential house fire after she fell and couldn’t get up, the company reported Oct. 8.
Terry Davidson, assistant division manager, and Stanley Stewart, residential route supervisor, were on their route performing cart repairs at customers’ homes.
According to the report, the pair was about to head back to the office when they decided to make one more stop. When they arrived at this individual’s home, the cart was under a carport. As they approached it, Davidson says he heard faint calls for help. Stewart asked for permission to enter the home and saw smoke in the hallway when he opened the door.
The woman, who had been cooking bacon on the stove, fell and was unable to get up. She said she was on the floor for about 30 minutes before Davidson and Stewart arrived. In the interim, the bacon had burned, sending smoke throughout the house. Upon entering the home, Davidson and Stewart turned off the stove, unplugged it, called 911, and stayed with the injured woman until an ambulance arrived.
“These two didn’t intend to go to her house until later in the day, so they were clearly in the right place at the right time—the outcome could have been much worse,” Waste Pro Regional Vice President Chris Lockwood says. “They aren’t the type of guys to share this story in hopes of recognition, but I want our customers to know of the wonderful people we have here at Waste Pro.”
