Machinex recognized as Recycling Equipment Innovator of the Year

Plessisville, Quebec-based Machinex has been named Recycling Equipment Innovator of the Year by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), Arlington, Virginia. This accolade recognizes the Next-Generation material recovery facility (MRF), an innovation installed at the Sherbourne Resource Park in Coventry, England.

The Recycling Equipment Innovator of the Year award is open to recycling equipment designers and manufacturers across North America that successfully challenge and advance recycling sector operations. It awards innovation in design and manufacturing that increases the effectiveness or efficiency of recycling equipment and operations, according to NWRA.

At the Sherbourne Resource Park, Machinex has designed, manufactured and installed a sorting system featuring 19 SamurAI sorting robots; 14 optical sorters, including 13 Mach Hyspec optical sorters; a Mach Vision stream composition analyzer; and multiple Mach Intell platforms facilitywide. Machinex says this ensures ultimate efficiency in an innovative state-of-the-art recycling facility.

Performance levels of up to 99 percent purity and more than 98 percent recovery are the result of an optimized turnkey sorting system integrating dozens of proprietary technologies, the company says.

“We have developed a cutting-edge sorting solution capable of processing 52 tons per hour of residential single-stream recyclables, reaching market-leading purity levels with only five manual sorters,” Machinex CEO Chris Hawn says. “While we know we could meet our customer’s metrics, we could not do this at the expense of losing valuable recyclables to residue. Sherbourne Recycling is extremely pleased with both our purity and recovery rates.”

Machinex’s partnership with Sherbourne Recycling allowed the companies to focus on designing a highly automated MRF that achieves quality products while maintaining sustainability. In designing the Sherbourne Resource Park, Machinex says it pushed the boundaries of its previous work and innovated beyond existing designs.

The level of purity achieved means that reclaimed materials are consumed locally rather than being exported as lower-grade materials. Data show a notable enhancement in recycling efficiency and effectiveness, with the facility maintaining a 95 percent plant and equipment availability rate.

LSC Environmental Products strengthens portfolio with acquisition of Benzaco Scientific

LSC Environmental Products LLC has acquired Washington-based Benzaco Scientific Inc., a manufacturer of and service provider for advanced odor control products and delivery systems that are designed to manage and eliminate odor issues in high-profile industrial and commercial markets.

LSC is an Apalachin, New York-based global manufacturer of products and equipment designed to address the environmental challenges of soil stabilization, revegetation, odor, land reclamation, waste cover, toxic remediation and dust.

The acquisition will strengthen LSC’s portfolio in the solid waste, oil and gas and remediation markets and will provide access to adjacent markets and distribution channels, the company says.

The combined organizations will continue to do business as LSC Environmental Products and will welcome all of Benzaco’s sales, finance, operations and technical support personnel.

Joe Donze, CEO of LSC, will continue to oversee the expanded organization, while John Ablon, Benzaco founder and president, will join LSC’s executive leadership team.

“We have been innovating with LSC for nearly a decade as a supplier and partner, and we are now excited to move forward as a full-fledged member of their growing family,” Ablon says.

LSC will continue to market and sell Benzaco’s entire product portfolio, including its Odor Armor family of products with natural odor-neutralizing compounds.

“The acquisition will meaningfully grow our technical expertise and dramatically expand LSC’s solution portfolio in key markets as we look to leverage our sales organization to drive significant growth,” Donze says of the company’s purchase of Benzaco.

Plum Creek Environmental acquires Premier Containers

Plum Creek Environmental, a West Point, Mississippi-based manufacturer of waste and recycling containers and equipment, has acquired Premier Containers, a Seabrook, New Hampshire-based manufacturer of waste and recycling equipment throughout the Northeast.

The company says this strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone in its commitment to expanding its capacity and geographical presence.

Premier Containers has more than 50 years of experience and expertise in designing and building roll-off and front-load containers for the solid waste industry throughout greater New England.
