WM acquires Winters Bros. Waste Systems

Winters Bros. Waste Systems, a Long Island, New York-based independent hauler that provides solid waste management and recycling services to municipal, residential, commercial and industrial customers in Long Island, has merged with WM.

“This acquisition will grow WM’s footprint and add complementary assets and operations, as well as a team with a shared focus on safety, outstanding service and operational excellence,” WM says.

The transaction was completed July 15. Terms of the deal were not announced.

The transaction includes all of Winters Bros.’ hauling operations, long-haul logistics and 12 transfer stations and recycling operations on Long Island. The merger strengthens WM’s national service platform and integrates Winters Bros.’ collection, transfer and recycling operations, Winters Bros. says in a news release.

Winters Bros. runs about 275 trucks with about 525 employees. Its service area includes Nassau and Suffolk counties and New York City.

The combination of Winters’ Bros. and Houston-based WM creates an integrated operations platform that provides significant advantages for serving customers across Long Island, Winter Bros. says. WM will focus on centralizing core corporate functions and standardizing business practices, creating operating efficiencies and improving productivity, while customer decisions will remain at the local level to ensure Winter Bros. remains responsive to customer and municipal concerns.
